Ashleigh Gould
Ashleigh completed a Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Sciences Advanced with Honours at Monash University, majoring in drug discovery biology. She commenced her PhD in 2020 in the Integrated Neurogenic Mechanisms Lab at MIPS under the supervision of Dr Daniel Poole, Dr Simona Carbone, Dr Emily Eriksson (WEHI) and A/ Professor Sebastian King (RCH/MCRI). Her project focuses on understanding how the gut resident immune system differs in children with the rare congenital neuropathy, Hirschsprung Disease. Her work combines multiparametric flow cytometry techniques with microscopy to investigate changes to immune cell population size and cellular location within the gut wall. She hopes her work will help to improve post-surgical outcomes for these patients who have a high risk of the developing the lethal septic infection Hirschsprung Associated Enterocolitis. Outside the lab, Ashleigh enjoys teaching calisthenics, playing water polo and testing out new recipes in the kitchen.
