Many fundamental principles in immunology have a direct impact in understanding the immune response to tumors and/or the natural immune surveillance mechanisms. I will outline key aspects of immunobiology including basic tolerance mechanisms, that have a direct impact in anti-tumor immunity. I will also discuss our recent studies on the role of various CD8 T cell subsets in anti-tumor immunity and changes in metabolic programming that improve the immune response to tumors.
